Mirror of Water
Infectious Collaborations: An Inquiry into Forests and the Pandemic
A Familiar Forest
A Familiar Forest replicates the tranquility of a forest at night through a spatial photographic experience with artificial soundscape and concocted scent. An interdisciplinary collaboration with Dr Ching Jianhong (Duke-NUS), this work ruminates upon environmental conservation and the medical therapeutic effects of the forest.
Mirror of Water
Mirror of Water is composed of a series of photographic sculptures hovering on the surface of a water body, and a single-channel video of oil deposits swirling in the water. The installation creates an otherwordly experience, a place of limbo where time appears to stand still. The abstract, surreal beauty of the imagery belies the reality of the far-reaching consequences water pollution has on native ecology, and the gravity of the situation at hand.
The series of photographic sculptures hovering on the surface of a constructed body of water was accompanied by a single-channel video of oil deposits swirling in the water, a documentation of the actual scene of the encountered pollution.
The emphasis on awareness of the far-ranging effects of water pollution concluded the experience of the installation work, with a written text titled "The Continuity of Water in our Ecosystems" by Dr Chua Siew Chin in the exhibition.
The first edition of Mirror of Water was commissioned by The Esplanade Singapore in 2018. The second edition was made in 2023. [1]

Infectious Collaborations: An Inquiry into Forests and the Pandemic
Infectious Collaborations is an interdisciplinary exploration of environment, society and the pandemic. This project is initiated by artist Zen Teh and scientist Ching Jianhong, in collaboration with curator Hera and designer Lim Shu Min. It consists of an outdoor art installation, web experience and a series of public programmes.
Sited at the Jurong Lake Gardens outdoor stage, the outdoor art installation provides an experiential entry point into the entanglements between human, non-human, sciences, histories and cultures between the ebb and flow of the pandemic. A corresponding web experience can be accessed on site and remotely; it is designed to extend the visitor experience through media content which provide layers of information and interpretations. Produced in conjunction with the artwork, programmes such as online talks and creative workshops aim to engage the public, to provoke thoughts and to provide space for imagining possible ways of living and engaging with nature and urbanism.
This project was supported by The National Arts Council, Singapore.

As the exhibition has concluded at Jurong Lake Gardens, some documentation of the web contents can be found on Zen's website. Web experience is designed in collaboration with Lim Shu Min. [2]
